New Botanic Art Work Term2
















My camera is lost, unfortunately, with many images of finished work on it.
Hence the delay in keeping the blog and website updated. The Phone camera is the alternative.

Some really beautiful work has been produced by the students , see the images included.
And some great work is still in the make, White orchids, Persimmons, etc..

I can see a few mentored students really benefiting by copying images from books. It just gives you a better understanding of how paintings are being build up. It's great for confidence as well.

Workshops and Information Day March and April 2011


On March the 19th I will be running a workshop at the Yarraville Community Centre from 10am - 1.30pm.

This as part of the official opening of the newly renovated centre. 56 Frances Street, Yarraville.

Everyone is welcome to view demonstrations and pick up pencils and paint to be introduced in to Botanic Art.

On April the 16th I will also be part of the "Paint The Gardens" day at the Williamstown Botanic Gardens. Adults and Children are welcome to have a go at Botanic Art and subjecs out of the Gardens. 11am - 2pm, Williamstown.

Week 2, term1

Ian came in with a great painting on Wednesday and Janet finished her Nasturtiums this Friday.
See the attached pictures.
The beginners are doing well and are practising mixing colours and brush techniques. Always some nervous faces in the beginning as some haven't touch brushes in ages or not at all.

Term 1, 2011 Starting this week


This week our first term for 2011 will start. The classes are nearly full which is great. Thanks to those students that keep on re enrolling into the Botanic Art Classes.
I have set some new projects that the mentored students can work on if they like. Drawing with Charcoal. Challenging but beautiful medium that will teach you about contrast, detail, shading, large smooth surfaces, etc.

Also the new website is up and running. New images of students work and other news will be published regularly.

One Day Botanic Art workshops - January 2011

January the 23th: "Botanic Art in Charcoal".

A fun and challenging day for students to get a taste of Botanic Art using Charcoal. Great for beginners to be introduced to Botanic Art and for

the more experienced students to try out a new medium.


The focus will be on developing good observational drawing skills by exploring and studying your Botanic Art subject. Students will learn to interpret and represent what they observe in front of them, and to build confidence in their ability to use charcoal on paper.


The intention of this workshop is to introduce students to use charcoal to create Botanic works of Art. Learn how to use charcoal in various way’s, rendering, surface techniques, charcoal pencils, charcoal dust, lifting off, dark backgrounds, etc.


Materials and subjects for the day will be supplied.

Bring your own lunch and tee/coffee cup.

Bring your water colour brushes if you do have.


Venue: Yarraville Community centre, 56 Frances Street, Yarraville.

Price: $110.00 ($50 dollar non refundable deposit required to book your place, Balance to be paid strictly one week prior to Workshop.

10am - 12pm: Charcoal techniques, create charcoal dust, tonal values.

12pm - 12.30pm: Lunch break.

12.30pm - 4.30pm: Drawing your Botanic Art subject with charcoal.

The focus will be on developing good observational drawing skills by exploring and studying your Botanic Art subject. Students will learn to interpret and represent what they observe in front of them, and to build confidence in their ability.


The intention of this workshop is to introduce students to Botanic Art and learn the basic skills of using watercolour. At the end of the workshop each student should go home with a small painting and the confidence to start painting independently.


No experience needed and materials will be supplied. The offer is there to purchase a starters pack after the course for $50.00. Paper, palette, paint, pencils, eraser, brushes.

Materials for the day will be supplied. (Please bring your own if you have)
